Synopsis

Ella Weaver’s Tooth for Tooth is a 3 channel film installation which examines the complexity of losing religion. Informed by sacred geometry and a religious past, the collective film imagines eternity as a recurring dream (or nightmare), the Trinity as veiled dancers–sinister and amalgamated, and the church as mourners and gatherers of the living as presumably dead. The hymn Be Still My Soul crescendos throughout the film, serving as a statement of hypocrisy and frailty to one who has lost their religion and is therefore considered to be damned by the religious. Still, there is a longing for an afterlife which the artist understands to be false and so ensues the bleak reality of such expansive loneliness.
